Exercise Tolerance Test ("Stress Test")
This test requires that you walk on a treadmill. The test
takes about one hour. Please avoid eating or drinking for four hours prior
to the test and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Sneakers are
ideal if available and women should wear slacks or a skirt that they can
walk comfortably in. Please bring a list of your medications. Allow 90

Dobutamine Echo
This is a type of stress test in which a medication is administered
intravenously. This drug simulates exercise and makes your heart rate increase.
An echocardiogram is done simultaneously. Allow 2 hours in the office.
Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) Therapy
For patients who are poor candidates for other invasive measures,
EECP therapy provides a noninvasive, atraumatic treatment
for coronary artery disease. Exercise Echo
This is a combination of an exercise test with an echocardiogram.
This test requires about two hours and all the information above for a
stress test applies to having an exercise echo done. Please avoid eating
or drinking for four hours prior to the test and wear comfortable clothes
and shoes. Sneakers are ideal if available and women should wear slacks
or a skirt that they can walk comfortably in. Please bring a list of your
medications.
Event Monitor
This is a small device which attaches to the chest wall by
two patches. These can be changed whenever you want, and the device is
usually worn for 1-4 weeks. When you have a symptom, you activate the monitor
and send us your EKG over the telephone. Hookup and instruction require
about 45 minutes.
Holter Monitor
This is a device which records your heartbeat for twenty-four
hours. We will attach patches to your chest and you will carry a small
box on a belt or shoulder strap. You must return the monitor the next
day. Allow about 60 minutes. Please bring a list of your medications.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor/Hypertension Evaluation
This is a combination of clinical assessment by questionnaire
and exam, brief ultrasound to assess the thickness of the heart and wearing
a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours. Please bring a list of your medications.
Please allow 60 minutes for the entire evaluation. The device must
be returned the next day.
Consultation
During your first visit we will develop a personalized treatment strategy. Our physicians will take a detailed history of your problem, perform a thorough examination of your heart and vascular system, and ask you about any risk factors that may contribute to your medical problem, including background information on family illnesses.
Tests and Procedures
We may recommend tests or procedures to help in the diagnosis and treatment of a possible cardiovascular condition. Your physician will describe to you details of any exams recommended. Most of these tests are performed right within our own office.
